10/17/2022 FOIA-2023-000011 Stepka, Pam I am requesting photographs of the SL-1 reactor accident that occurred on January 3, 1961, including autopsy photographs as well as photographs during the recovery of the casualties.

10/18/2022 FOIA-2023-000012 Brewer, Jack Expanding Frontiers Research Please provide all records cross-referencing or pertaining to a 2020 complaint submitted in reference to Skinwalker Ranch and subsequently forwarded in 2021 to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

Please include in your search all emails and email chains referencing and pertaining to the complaint from 2020 to present.

In response to a related public records request, the DEQ, Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control, informed me in an Oct. 18 email of a responsive record. The DEQ advised that the NRC had forwarded it an email in 2021 containing a complaint of alleged uranium deposits at the property popularly known as Skinwalker Ranch in Utah.

Items of Interest Week Ending October 21, 2022 NRC Observes Tribal Summit on the TerraPower Natrium Reactor Project in Kemmerer, WY On October 18, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff observed a Tribal Summit in Kemmerer, WY hosted by TerraPower. The purpose of the summit was to provide an opportunity for thirteen Tribal Nations that could be affected by the proposed TerraPower Natrium reactor project in Kemmerer, WY to engage directly with TerraPower. Three out of the thirteen tribes invited were in attendance. The Tribal representatives discussed items of interest and cultural importance with TerraPower. A government-to-government meeting prior to formal submittal of TerraPowers construction permit application was discussed and encouraged by the Tribal Nations in attendance.

Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS)

Items of Interest Week Ending October 21, 2022 NMSS Issued a Letter to the State of New York On October 14, 2022, NMSS staff issued a letter to the State of New York responding to comments and suggestions received during the review of an exemption request submitted by Holtec Decommissioning International (HDI) (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML22234A063). The letter became publicly available on October 21, 2022. HDI is requesting to store more Neutron Source Assemblies than is currently authorized in the Certificate of Compliance No. 1014, HI-STORM 100S Version E cask. The staff is completing its review of the exemption and plans to issue a decision by October 30, 2022.

NRC Staff Held Biannual Fuel Facilities Stakeholder Meeting On October 19, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff held the second of two biannual fuel facilities stakeholder meetings with representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute, fuel cycle facility industry representatives, and members of the public. The parties discussed the status of several initiatives involving the nuclear fuel cycle facility industry, including progress on the Smarter Licensing, Core Inspection, and Construction Inspection Programs, perspective on hybrid inspections, rulemakings impacting the fuel cycle facility community, and fuel cycle facility industry priorities.
