Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR)

Items of Interest Week Ending May 20, 2022 NRC Staff Met With Industry-led Technical Specifications Task Force (TSTF)

On May 12, 2022, NRR staff and the TSTF conducted a regularly scheduled quarterly meeting, as noticed at Agencywide Document Access Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22119A248. The TSTF is working on several new projects including (1) a traveler to expand the surveillance frequency control program applicability to administrative controls and in-service testing requirements, (2) a traveler to revise the design features section of technical specifications which would revise technical specifications for lead test assemblies, control rods, and the spent fuel pool, and (3) a long-range project looking at ways to propose strategic improvements to technical specifications. The next TSTF quarterly meeting will take place in August 2022.

NRC Staff Held Public Meeting to Discuss Evaluation of New Seismic Models On May 17, 2022, the staff held a public meeting to discuss its evaluation of new seismic models, which is being undertaken within the process for the ongoing assessment of natural hazards information framework. The staff presented the status of the project, plans for prioritization and screening criteria for plant-specific re-evaluations and a revised schedule for future activities and public interactions (ADAMS Accession No. ML22132A299). Over 60 people attended the meeting, and an additional public meeting is planned for the late summer.

NRC Staff Held an Audit Meeting With Constellation On May 18, 2022, NRC staff and Constellation held a partially closed audit meeting on the defense-in-depth and diversity coping analysis for the Limerick digital instrumentation and control modernization project. This meeting kicked off the planned regulatory audit activities described in the NRCs audit plan (ADAMS Accession No. ML22110A097). The NRC staff and Constellation discussed the usage of an open items (i.e., questions or comments on the analysis) table, which is an informal communication tool. Also, the NRC staff and Constellation discussed the licensees responses to the NRC staffs initial open items table, which were attached to the audit plan.
