Items of Interest Week Ending JANUARY 31, 2020 Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed Changes to the Steam Generator Technical Specifications On January 22, 2020, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting with the Steam Generator Task Force to discuss proposed changes to the steam generator (SG) technical specifications (TS). During the meeting, the Electrical Power Research Institute and licensee representatives proposed submitting a Technical Specifications Task Force that maintained the current framework of the performance-based TS but would revise the required SG inspection scope and intervals. The NRC staff provided positive feedback with respect to the proposed changes. Another meeting will be scheduled in February 2020 to discuss the technical basis needed to support the proposed new SG inspection scope and intervals.

Public Meeting to Discuss Status of Reactor Oversight Process Topics On January 22, 2020, the NRC staff held a public meeting with the industrys Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Task Force and members of the public to discuss the status of ROP topics, as well as plans for the inspection program for the new AP1000 reactors at Vogtle when they are complete and transition into the ROP (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20007D677). The meeting was conducted as a Category 2 and a Category 3 respectfully for the two major topics. ROP topics discussed during the meeting included Significance Determination Process updates (ADAMS Accession No. ML20010F632), updates on Phase 2 Activities for the ROP Enhancement project, the disposition of public comments on the ROP Enhancement SECY 19-0067 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20016A180), and updates on Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection Response to Action Matrix Column 2 Inputs (ADAMS Accession No. ML20014E139). The meeting was well attended by industry, and members of the public were active participants in the meeting topics. Phone lines were available for members at the public with frequent opportunities to provide comments throughout the meeting. The next monthly public meeting between the staff and the ROP Task Force is scheduled for February 26, 2020.
