Items of Interest Week Ending NOVEMBER 1, 2019 Public Meeting to Discuss the Transformation of the Topical Report Review Process On October 24, 2019, the staff held a public workshop to provide industry and stakeholders with information related to transforming the topical report review process. Covered at the workshop were presentations on the overall staff transformation effort, experience with a pilot review using a simplified safety evaluation, experience with the use of a Tiger Team to do a topical report review, plans for a pilot to conduct a review using a reduced scope , and information on the planned revision to the office instruction for topical report reviews.

Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Denies Requests for Rule Waiver and Admission of Six Contentions on the Subsequent License Renewal Application for Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Units 3 and 4 On October 24, 2019, the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board issued a Memorandum and Order denying requests from Friends of the Earth, Inc., Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc., and Miami Waterkeeper, Inc. (collectively, Joint lntervenors) for a rule waiver and admission of six new environmental contentions on the Subsequent License Renewal Appl ication for Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Units 3 and 4. This action terminated the Board's proceeding involving Florida Power & Light Company's subsequent license renewal application for Turkey Point and permits NRR to continue its decision process regarding issuance of the subsequent renewed license.

Public Meeting to Discuss the Hearing Process for Inspections. Tests. Analyses. and Acceptance Criteria for Vogtle Units 3 and 4 On October 30, 2019, the staff hosted a public meeting on the hearing process for inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria (ITAAC) near the Vogtle construction site. The staff discussed the procedures for conducting hearings on whether acceptance criteria in the Vogtle Units 3 and 4 combined licenses are met.
