Items of Interest Week Ending March 8, 2019 Public Meeting on Regulatory Information Summary 2002-22 on Digital Instrumentation and Control System Upgrades

  • On February 27, 2019, the staff held a Category 2 public meeting to discuss with industry the lessons learned since the issuance of regulatory issue summary (RIS) 2002-22, Supplement 1, "Clarification on Endorsement of Nuclear Energy Institute Guidance in Designing Digital Upgrades in Instrumentation and Control Systems." NRC staff provided an overview of RIS 2002-22, Supplement 1, and industry representatives from NextEra and NEI discussed plans for several digital modifications using the guidance in the RIS. Some of these digital modifications, such as diesel generator controls, turbine and feed-water controls, and digital inverters, will be implemented in 2019 and 2020.
