Items of Interest Week Ending October 12, 2018 Regulatory Issue Summary Regarding Supplier Oversight Issues On October 5, 2018, the staff issued Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2018-05, "Supplier Oversight Issues Identified during Recent NRC Vendor Inspections." The intent of this RIS is to inform the addressees of common violations and non-conformances that the staff has identified during recent vendor inspections associated with procuring basic components for NRC-licensed facilities and for providing oversight of their suppliers.

Items of Interest Week Ending October 12, 2018 Agency Procedures for Responding to Adverse Court Decisions and Addressing Funding Shortfalls: Petition for Rulemaking; Denial; Part 2 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) (PRM-2-15; NRC-2015-0264)
On October 9, 2018, the NRC published a document in the Federal Register (83 FR 50533) denying a petition for rulemaking (PRM), submitted on October 22, 2015, by Jeffrey M. Skov (the petitioner), and supplemented on December 7, 2015, March 1, 2016, March 21, 2016, and March 1, 2017. The petition was docketed by the NRC on November 10, 2015, and was assigned Docket No.
PRM-2-15. The petitioner requested that the NRC amend its rules of practice to establish procedures for responding to adverse court decisions and to annually report to the public each instance where the NRC does not receive "sufficient funds reasonably necessary to implement in good faith its statutory mandates." The NRC is denying the petition because the petitioner has not identified shortcomings in the NRC's current regulations or demonstrated a need for the requested changes. The docket for PRM-2-15 was closed on October 9, 2018.
Korea Electric Power Corporation; Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., Advanced Power Reactor 1400: Standard Design Approval; Issuance; 10 CFR Part 52 (NRC-2015-0021)
On October 11, 2018, the NRC published a document in the Federal Register (83 FR 51304) issuing a standard design approval (SDA) to Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Hydro
& Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. for the advanced power reactor 1400 (APR1400) standard design.
The SDA allows the APR1400 standard design to be referenced in an application for a construction permit or operating license, or an a*pplication for a combined license or manufacturing license under its regulations. The standard design approval was issued on September 28, 2018.
