Subject:
Second 10-year Inservice Inspection Interval End Dates
References:
- 1) Letter from Charles Pardee (Exelon Generation Company, LLC) to the USNRC, Submittal of Relief Requests CR-36 and CE-37 to the Requirements of 10CFR50.55a(g), "Inservice Inspection Requirements,"
dated April 13, 2001
- 2) Letter from Mr. A. J. Mendiola (USNRC) to Mr. 0. D. Kingsley (Exelon Generation Company, LLC), dated November 5, 2001 Exelon Generation Company (EGC), LLC, in Reference 1, submitted two requests for relief from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code)Section XI requirements for LaSalle County Station. The relief requests proposed changes to the annual ultrasonic training requirements and certain statistical parameters of Appendix VIII of the ASME Code.
In Reference 2, the NRC authorized the use of the relief requests for the remainder of the second 10-year Inservice Inspection (ISI) interval at LaSalle County Station. However, based on the wording contained in Reference 2, EGC believes it is necessary to clarify the currently scheduled end dates of the second 10-year ISI intervals for LaSalle County Station. Safety Evaluation Sections 2.5 and 3.5 of Reference 2, stated that the LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 second ISI intervals end October 11, 2003 and July 4, 2004, respectively. These dates actually represent the currently scheduled end dates for the second ISI periods of the second 10-year ISI intervals for LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2. The currently scheduled end dates of the second 10-year ISI intervals are October 11, 2006 for Unit 1, and July 4, 2007 for Unit 2.
April 9, 2002 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 In summary, EGC understands that the relief requests identified in Reference 2 are authorized for the remainder of the second 10-year IS[ intervals, which have currently scheduled end dates of October 11, 2006 for Unit 1, and July 4, 2007 for Unit 2.
