1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) utilizes a pressurized water reactor rated at 2900 MWT. The maximum dependable capacity is 966 MWe.

The station is located approximately 26 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina.

2.0 OPERATIONAL DATA For the reporting period of January 1 through December 31, 2016, the station operated at a capacity factor of 102% (using maximum dependable capacity) and a unit availability of 100%.

The reactor was critical for a total of 8784.0 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br />, the generator remained on line 8784.0 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br /> and the total gross electrical energy generated for 2016 was 8,999,220 MWH.

3.0 OPERATING

SUMMARY

The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS) Unit No.1 operated at 100% power from January 1st through March 4th. On March 4th power was reduced to 91% to support planned main turbine valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on March 5th.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from March 5th to June 3rd. On June 3rd power was reduced to approximately 89.3% to support planned main turbine valve testing. Reactor power was restored to 100% on June 4th.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from June 4th to July 26th. On July 26th power was reduced to approximately 93% due to failure of C Main Feedwater Booster Pump Motor. The failed motor was replaced. Reactor power was restored to 100% on August 3rd.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from August 3rd to September 9th. On September 9th power was reduced to approximately 90.5% to support planned main turbine valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on September 10th.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from September 10th to November 11th. On November 11th power was reduced to 88.5% due to the malfunction of a heater drain valve level controller on the #1B Feedwater Heater. This required isolation of the #1B Feedwater Heater to repair the level controller. Power was restore to 100% on November 11th.

VCSNS operated at 100% power from November 11th to December 2nd. On December 2nd power was reduced to 92% to support planned main turbine valve testing. Power was restored to 100% on December 3rd. The plant operated at 100% power for the remainder of 2016.
