This letter provides Gulf States Utilities Company's (GSU) initial response to NRC Bulletin 85-03, Supplement 1
"Motor-operated Valve Common Mode Failures During Plant Transients Due to Improper Switch Settings".
The BWR Owner's Group (BWROG), of which GSU is a member, is developing a generic BWR position for meeting the requirements of this supplement.
The BWROG position is scheduled to be completed in July 1988.
GSU's response to Supplement 1 of this bulletin is tied to the completion of this BWROG generic program. Accordingly, in order to utilize the BWROG efforts, CSU requests an extension to allow submittal of our response to this supplement within thirty days of completion of the BWROG program.
In addition, because of the similarity of requested information, GSU will provide its response to the NRC "Request for Additional Information Concerning River Bend Response to IEB-85-03" dated April 5, 1988, on that same schedule.
