Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Issues Order Prohibiting Radiographer from Participating in NRC-Licensed Activities The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued an Order barring a radiographer from participating in NRC-licensed activities for one year and from supervising such activities for three years based on the individuals deliberate failure to use radioactive material in accordance with the conditions of an NRC license.
The NRCs investigation determined that while Randy Bethea was at a temporary job site at a refinery in Sinclair, Wyo., he deliberately used radioactive materials for a purpose not authorized in the license held by his former employer, Mistras Group, Inc.
The NRC also issued a Severity Level III Notice of Violation to the Mistras Group, Inc., located in LaPorte, Texas, which is authorized by the NRC to use radioactive materials for industrial radiography. The individuals actions caused the company to be in violation of NRC requirements.
Because the company independently identified this issue, informed the agency of the situation, and took corrective actions, the NRC will not be issuing a civil penalty to Mistras.
The NRCs order and notice of violation are available on the NRC's website.
