NRC STAFF ISSUES ORDER TO ROANOKE COMPANY The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued an order to Roof Survey and Consultants, Inc. in Roanoke, Virginia, involving the licensees possession and use of a roofing gauge containing radioactive material without paying license fees or complying with a previously-issued order.
The order requires that the company keep the gauge in locked storage and not use it; contact the NRC within five days; have the gauge leak tested; and transfer the gauge to someone with a license to possess it within 30 days. Upon completion of these requirements, the NRC will revoke the license.
The previous NRC order required the company to either pay the annual fee for an NRC license or transfer the gauge to another licensee. The company has not complied with that original order.
If the company does not comply with the new order, it may be subject to civil penalties of $500 per day until the orders requirements are met. If the gauge is transferred within 30 days, there will be no civil penalties.
