He joins Resident Inspector Phil Niebaum and Site Secretary Edna Dyal at the plant, which is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co.

Morris joined the NRC in July 2006 as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program in the Region II office in Atlanta. He later worked as the resident inspector at Progress Energys Robinson nuclear power plant near Hartsville, S.C. Morris served in the U.S.

Navys nuclear power program as a nuclear machinist mate from 1990 to 2001. During his naval service, he worked as a nuclear prototype instructor at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho and as the nuclear Machinery Division leading petty officer on the fast attack submarines USS Oklahoma City and USS Topeka.

In 2004, Morris earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, in nuclear engineering and engineering physics with a minor in social psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. After completing his degree and prior to joining the NRC, Morris worked as an advanced nuclear core design engineer for Bechtel Bettis.

Eddie Morris has the experience and commitment to safety to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment, and to help ensure the safe operation of the Hatch plant, said NRC Region II Administrator Luis Reyes.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
