NRC ASSIGNS NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR TO SALEM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa.,

have selected Philip McKenna as the Resident Inspector at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station in Lower Alloways Creek, N.J. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Dan Schroeder at the two-unit site, operated by PSEG Nuclear.

Phil McKenna has extensive technical experience and has demonstrated the dedication to safety to carry out the NRCs commitment to protect people and the environment," said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.

McKenna joined the NRC in 2008 as a reactor inspector in the Region I office in King of Prussia. Since joining the agency, he has completed a rigorous inspector qualification program and has participated in engineering inspections throughout the northeastern United States.

McKenna served in the United States Navy for 25 years as a submarine officer. His last assignment was Executive Officer of Submarine Base New London, in Groton, Conn. His other assignments included Commanding Officer of the Naval Submarine Support Facility in New London and Executive Officer of the USS Oklahoma City. He earned a bachelors degree in applied science from the United States Naval Academy and a masters in energy management and policy from the University of Pennsylvania.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public.

The Salem resident inspectors can be reached at 856-935-5151.
