have selected Matthew Osborn as the new resident inspector at the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Lusby, Md. He joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Silas Kennedy at the two-unit site, which is operated by Constellation Energy.
Osborn joined the agencys Region I staff in 2009. He previously served in the United States Navy for six years as a nuclear submarine officer and a Naval ROTC instructor at the University of Oklahoma.
Osborn has a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M, a masters in business administration from the University of Oklahoma and a masters in engineering management from Old Dominion University. He completed the Navys nuclear power program and the NRCs inspector qualification program.
Matt Osborn has the experience, training and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of Calvert Cliffs, said acting NRC Region I Administrator Marc L. Dapas.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident Inspectors can be assigned to any one site for up to seven years.
