have selected Mandy Halter as the new resident inspector at Indian Point 3 in Buchanan, N.Y. Halter joins Senior Resident Inspector Paul Cataldo at Unit 3. Two additional resident inspectors are also assigned to Indian Point

2. Both units are operated by Entergy Nuclear.

Halter joined the NRCs Region I office in 2007. She completed a rigorous inspector qualification program and was then assigned as a region-based engineering inspector. Prior to joining the NRC, Halter served as an officer in the United States Navy for seven years. She earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy, a masters degree in business administration from Villanova University and a masters degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University.

Mandy Halter has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure the safe operation of Indian Point 3, said NRC Region I Administrator Samuel J. Collins.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.

Inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
