Diane Screnci 610/337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610/337-5331 NEW NRC RESIDENT INSPECTOR ASSIGNED TO MILLSTONE NUCLEAR PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected James Krafty as the new Resident Inspector at Millstone Station in Waterford, Conn. He joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Steve Shaffer and Resident Inspector Jamie Benjamin at the site. There are two operating units at Millstone; Unit 1 is permanently shut down.

Krafty first joined the NRC in May 2004 as a reactor inspector in the Division of Reactor Safety in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa.

Prior to joining the NRC, Krafty worked as an engineer for more than 15 years, holding various engineering positions with Weyerhauser in Oglethorpe, Ga., Millennium Chemicals in Baltimore, ONeal Engineering in Baltimore, and Archer Daniels Midland in Peoria, Ill. He served as a submarine officer in the United States Navy for seven years.

Krafty earned a bachelor=s degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He is a registered professional engineer.

AJim Krafty is a good addition to the Millstone inspection team. His technical and regulatory experience will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants," said NRC Region I Administrator Samuel J. Collins.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
