NRC PLANS PUBLIC MEETINGS WITH FUEL CYCLE LICENSEES The NRC staff is planning a series of public meetings with fuel cycle licensees to discuss acceptance criteria to be included in a Standard Review Plan (SRP) applicable to applications for licenses to process enriched uranium for the manufacture of reactor fuel.

A Standard Review Plan is under development by the staff and will be used to determine if an application meets specific regulatory requirements.

Within the SRP will be a separate section which will include criteria for determining the acceptability of the design or programs addressing each topic-area chapter of the SRP.

All of the meetings, which will be held on November 1, 8 and 9 and 15 and 16, will be at the NRC's Headquarters at 11555 Rockville Pike in Rockville, Maryland.

On November 1, 8 and 15, the meetings will begin at 9:30 a.m. and are expected to end by 5:00 p.m.

The November 9 and 16 meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m.

and end by 5:00 p.m.

Specific topics to be discussed are:

-- November 1 --

a.m., fire protection; p.m., emergency preparedness;

-- November 8 --

a.m., decommissioning; p.m., waste management;

-- November 9 --

a.m., environmental protection; p.m.,

radiation protection;

-- November 15 --

a.m., organization, managemement control and oversight; p.m., quality assurance;

-- November 16 --

nuclear criticality safety.
