NRC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON REVISED CONFLICTS OF INTEREST POLICY The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a public meeting March 26 in Bethesda, MD, to explain its revised Conflicts of Interest policy for commercial contractors who may perform technical or research work for the NRC.

The meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Versailles I Room at the Holiday Inn, 8120 Wisconsin Avenue.

The Commission approved the policy revision August 15, 1991, to enhance the NRC's ability to obtain knowledgeable, experienced scientists and engineers who work daily in the real-life environment of the nuclear industry and to increase competition in the technical assistance marketplace.

The new policy, however, restricts a contractor from soliciting or performing work at a utility site while working for the NRC at the same site for a specified period of time.

The purpose of these limitations is to avoid the potential for unfair competitive advantage if NRC contractors were permitted to market their services while working for the NRC at a licensee or applicant site and to ensure that NRC contractors do not have divided financial interests while working for the NRC.

All contractors and other interested parties are invited to attend the meeting to provide their views on compliance with the revised policy.
