NRC INTRODUCES ADDITIONAL ENHANCEMENTS TO ITS ONLINE DOCUMENT DATABASE The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is enhancing its online database, the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS), by adding a more powerful and versatile search engine and other new functionality. Among the changes will be the ability for users to see up to 500 search results (documents and packages) in the folder contents panel, and to save and execute a search and its associated search criteria as a web link for streamlined access to frequently used documents.

Other advantages of the upgrade include the:

  • Ability to export a list of documents as hypertext markup language or as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet in comma-separated values format;
  • Ability to access search-specific folders by right-clicking on the folder or using the Advanced Search tab; and
  • Ability to change a previously saved query by editing its search criteria in structured query language mode, instead of using the Add to Query function.

Since it was first introduced in October 2010, Web-based ADAMS - which doesnt require a download of any client software - has been favorably received. It makes it easier for users to search the full text of publicly available documents published in electronic form. It also provides expanded access to bibliographic information and abstracts in the ADAMS Public Legacy Library, which includes entries for 2 million older NRC documents stored on microfiche or in paper form.
