NRC HONORED FOR ITS HEALTHY WORKPLACE PROGRAM The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has received an award for its commitment to promoting a healthy workplace from the National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large employers. The NRC was among 66 employers receiving the 2010 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award at a ceremony held June 14. The NRC received a silver award for employers that have launched significant programs or services to promote living a healthier lifestyle. This is the first time a federal government agency has been selected.

This is a great honor for the NRC to receive, said Chairman Gregory Jaczko. It reflects the emphasis we place on the quality of life needs of our workforce in order to support the mission of the agency as a whole. Promoting employee wellness maintains our productivity and contributes to our reputation as an employer of choice.

The NRC employee wellness program includes an on-site health center and fitness center at the agencys headquarters and an employee assistance program. Services provided free to all employees include physical exams, urgent medical care, occupational health and safety support, smoking cessation, weight, nutrition and employee counseling, a cardiac defibrillator program, biometric screenings, ergonomics, immunizations and health education.
