NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, DC 20555-001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov/OPA No.04-031 March 5, 2004 NRC ISSUES ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS FOR NATIONS NUCLEAR PLANTS The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued annual assessment letters to 102 of the nations 103 operating commercial nuclear power plants. The Davis-Besse nuclear facility in Ohio will not be issued an annual assessment letter by the agency because it is currently under a special NRC oversight program.
Every six months most plants receive either a mid-cycle review letter or an annual assessment letter, along with an NRC inspection plan. Updated information on plant performance is posted to the NRC web site every quarter. The next mid-cycle assessment letters will be issued in September.
The assessment letters sent to each licensee are available on the NRC web site at:

Public meetings at each of the plant sites are planned and will be announced in advance.
