NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, DC 20555-001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov/OPA No.01-057 May 10, 2001 NRC SCHEDULES MAY 24 MEETING IN MESQUITE, NEVADA, ON POSSIBLE YUCCA MOUNTAIN WASTE REPOSITORY The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with local citizens May 24 in Mesquite, Nevada, to provide an overview of its activities related to the possible future high-level radioactive waste repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Mesquite City Hall, 10 East Mesquite Blvd.,
Council Chamber. NRC representatives will discuss the agencys independent oversight function and its role in regulating the transportation of high-level waste. They will also be available to answer questions.
