The theme for this years conference is NRCs New Regulatory Approach and How Effective Communication is Key.
Following welcoming remarks by Inspector General Hubert T. Bell, NRC Chairman Richard A.
Meserve will deliver the keynote address discussing the importance of open and clear communication.
Next will be two discussion panels to address effective communication as it relates to the NRCs reactors program and the nuclear materials program. Representatives from public interest groups, the States, and the NRC will participate on the panels and respond to questions from the audience as time allows.
The OIG independently and objectively conducts audits and investigations to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of NRCs programs and operations and strives to prevent and detect agency fraud, waste, and abuse. Information and insights from the conference will help the OIG plan its activities for the coming year to effect positive change in the agency.
The conference, which is open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Commissioners Conference Room at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. It will be telecasted to NRCs four regional offices where interested members of the public are invited to listen. The regional offices are located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania; Atlanta, Georgia; Lisle, Illinois; and Arlington, Texas.
