DEATH OF NON-LICENSEE WORKER WHILE ON-SITE On Friday evening, July 23, 1993, at approximately 9:23 p.m., the licensee declared an on-site medical emergency when a non-licensee individual representing American National Insurers (ANI) passed out on the -35 foot elevation of the reactor auxiliary building, a radiological-controlled area. The individual reportedly had just completed inspecting a maintenance work item and was conferring with licensee personnel in a clean area when he collapsed.
Resuscitation efforts were immediately commenced by licensee personnel and were continued in the ambulance which arrived on-site approxicately 17 minutes after the event declaratior. The individual was. declared dead upon arrival at the nearby St. Charles Hospital.
The licensee reports that no contamination was involved. The individual is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Region IV received notification of this occurrence by telecon from the resident inspectors at 7:45 a.m. on July 26, 1993. Region IV has informed NRR and the ED0's Office.
