FOLLOWUP TO BIOMEDICAL WASTE NOTICE E

This refers to'a previous notice issued by Region IV on September 7, 1989, regarding a potentially contaminated waste shipment received at' Midway Environmental Management Company in Stroud, Oklahoma. As described in the previous notice, the package was surveyed at the Stroud site and determined to have no removable contamination. The package was subsequently released to the original: shipper and transported back to Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Region IV staff examined the subject package content at Mercy Health Center on Friday, September 8, 1989. Surveys performed during this inspection demonstrated radiation levels equivalent to background. Following review of the licensee's disposal records and interviews of personnel, it was determined that the licensee had followed established procedures for release of material decayed-in-storage.
