The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV staff on this date.

OFFSITE RELEASE OF SOURCE MATERIAL (UPDATE)

Three NRC staff members reviewed licensee activities on site Tuesday after an estimated 90,000 gallons of process effluent was released from the site on Sunday, June 18, 1989. There have been no further releases, and the effluent i

has been contained behind a temporary enbankment. The Region IV office will issue a letter to the licensee today confirming licensee actions to begin processing the impounded effluent and to make other site modifications to mitigate the consequences of further impoundment leakage.

One of the three NRC staff members will remain in the vicinity of the site through Friday, June 23.
