INITIAL START-UP OF THE DEPLETED UF TO UF PROCESSING PLANT 6 4 The-licensee introduced depleted UF on April 24, 1987, as feed material in the initial start-up phase of a newly c nstructed DUF to DUF processing plant.
Onlyminordifficultiesassociatedwiththeproce$sequipkenthavebeen encountered during preliminary testing.
t The new plant is located several hundred feet north of the licensee's present uranium hexafluoride conversion facility. The licensee plans to produce 1,288 lbs/hr of DUF, product under normal operating conditions including scheduled and unscheduled process interruptions.
A RIV inspector was onsite to observe the start-up. activities.
The licensee has responded to news media inquiries. The NRC does not plan to issue a press release.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence by the NRC inspector at 4:00 p.m. on April 24, 1987. Region IV has' informed NMSS.
