EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS RESULTING IN A PLANT SHUTDOWN IN EXCESS

DAYS Inspections and evaluations performed by a subcontractor (Bechtel) to determine the environmental qualifications of certain electrical connectors located inside contain-ment reveals that adequate material and/or test data does not exist to make a determ-ination of acceptability for a number of these electrical connectors.
The licensee has identified a program to rework all of the questionable connectors during this refueling outage. This program will result in an extension of the refueling outage by an estimated one to three weeks.
The State of Michigan will be not;.ified.
Neither Region III nor the licensee plans to issue a press release.
Region III received notification of this matter frcm the licensee on December 19, 1980.
This PN is being issued because the shutdown has been extended for greater than two days.
