I safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by Region II staff in Atlanta, Georgia on this date.

STOLEN TROXLER MOISTURE DENSITY GAUGE On August 30, 1999, State officials notified the Region that, cometime over the weekend, the licensee experienced the theft of a Troxler moisture density gauge from their main office, located in Gulfport, l 4

Mississippi. l The stolen gauge was a Troxler moisture density gauge, Model No. 3440, Serial No. 28210, containing 8 mci of cesium 173 and 40 mci of americium / beryllium 241.

Preliminary investigation resulus indicate that the gauge was properly stored at the licensee's facility, which was broken into sometime over the weekend, and in addition to the stolen gauge, other items were renoved from the facility, including a motor vehicle from the parking lot.

Local law enforcement officials have been notified.

No media interest has been expressed.

l State officials plan on issuing a press release today, and are investigating this matter.

A member of the Regional Information Assessment Team was notified of this theft of radioactive material.

State officials reported this event to both the Headquarters Operations Center, and to the Regional office on August 30, 1999.
