STOLEN PORTAI3LE GAUGE The State of Florida, Bureau of Radiation-Control (BRC) notified NRC on

-Saturday, May.1, 1999 that the licensee had reported the theft of a portable moisture density gauge.

The gauge was a Troxler, model 3430, device containing 8 millicuries of cesium-137 and 40 millicuries of

. americium-241.

The device was removed from:the locked storage container mounted on the back of a pickup' truck.

The truck was located at a temporary job site and the device'was stolen while other work was being conducted at the site.

The licensee immediately reported the theft to the local police

]

suthorities.who have the incident under investigation.

i sThe BRC reported that radio and television media interest has occurred in t h e M i a m i - a r e a,: and that the licensee has offered a reward for the return

-of the device.
