STOLEN RADIOGRAPHY DEVICE The State of Florida notified NRC that a radiography camera was stolen q from a locked equipment trailer on Wednesday morning, between 4:00 and l 4:40 a.m. on March 17, 1999. The locked camera (device) and the keys to l the device were stolen. The device is an AEA Technology, Model 660B,

, serial number B-3581, containing 88.3 curies of iridium-192. Iridium-192 has a half-live of 74 days and the exposure rate at the surface of the device is calculated to be about 105 millirem per hour. The device cables were not stolen.

The Florida Bureau of Radiation Control (BRC) responded to the event and the local police and the FBI have the-incident under investigation. A

, press release is being prepared and will be issued by the local jurisdictions of Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale) and the City of Pembroke Pines. A $5,000 dollar reward is being offered by the licensee.

The NRC is monitoring the circumstances of the incident and has offered 4 assistance to the State of Florida as needed. At this time, the State I han indicated that assistance is not needed. .
