DAMAGED PORTABLE GUAGE On August 4, 1998,_the licensee reported that on August 4, construction equipment ran into a portable moisture-density gauge damaging the device i at a Rio Piedras location. The gauge contained two sealed sources j

.containing 50 millicuries of Americium-241 and 10 millicuries of Casium-137.

Police and Civil Defense responded to the scene.

A hazardous material contractor retrieved the gauge, packed it in a steel container, and established a restricted area around the container. The

, gauge was damaged, however, the sources remained shielded. Radiation surveys indicated 30 millirem per hour on contact. There was no l

indication of contamination. The licensee plans to contact the device manufacturer for proper disposition of the licensed material, j
