The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by Region II staff in Atlanta, Georgia on this date.

STOLEN MOISTURE DENSITY GAUGE Florida, an Agreement State, notified NRC that a portable moisture density gauge was reported stolen from the licensee's truck located in a residental area of Orlando, Florida.

The event occurred during the night of October 15, 1996.

The device was a Troxler, Model 3440, portable gauge, serial number 26065.

The device contains 9 millicuries of cesium-137, and 44 millicuries of americium:berylium.

The device was reported to have been locked inside the transportation container, and the container was locked and secured to the truck with a cable and lock.

The State related that the Polk County Sheriff's Department was investigating the event, and that a press release was being prepared for release.
