This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region II staff on this date.

Recovery of Stolen Moisture / Density Gauge On December 20, 1993, the licensee notified Region II office of the recovery of the moisture / density gauge that was stolen on December 7, 1993 (previously reported in PN 2-93-069) from a temporary job site at P.R.

road No. 22, Km 15.

The licensee aggressively pursued the notification of the incident to the public using radio, television and news papers.

The recovery was accomplished on December 11, 1993, when the gauge was found in a abandoned house in Arecibo by the property owner. The police were informed, and

  • Ley contacted the local civil defense office, who removed and secured the gauge, and called the licensee.

The licensee took possession of the gauge, performed a leak test and found no indication of leakage or contamination.

The device was found intact (including case and documentation in the package).

The device was stolen with the handle in the locked position, and when recovered, the device was found locked.

(The licensee was always in posession of the key to the device.)

The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has been notified.
