STOLEN PORTABLE GAUGE Florida, an Agreement State notified NRC, Region II on July 13, 1992, that a van type vehicle (GA license number SPR 839) was stolen from a Holiday Inn parking lot in the ' Jacksonville, FL area during the night of July 12, 1993. The vehicle contained a portable nuclear gauge containing CT f

approximately 80 millicuries of americium-241. Th**' t vehicle and the gauge device were reported to be locked.

The device with the shutter open reads o.,st 5 millirem per hour at 12 inches from the shutter, and with the shutter closed the reading is less than 1 millirem per hour at any surface. The device can be used under a general or specific license.

A local police report was filed, and the police issued a statement to the local news media.
