- received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date FACILITY: General Electric Company Wilmington Nuclear Fuel Docket No. SNM-1097 Wilmington, North Carolina

SUBJECT:

TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT A Tri-State truck loaded with five full OR-30B UF cylinders in overpacks was 6

forced off I-85 near Greensboro, North Carolina at about 1:30 p.m. on August 22, 1980. The truck was enroute from the Goodyear facility at Sargents, Ohio to the 4

Wilmington Nuclear Fuel plant.

The truck went into a ditch but did not o.erturn. There was no damage to the overpacks on.the truck and no personnel injuries.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol surveyed the containers and confirmed no damage and no radiation release.

The North Carolina Radiological protection section notified General Electric Company. GE was informed that a Tri-bsate Trucking Company wrecker was on the; way to extricate the truck.

Media interest may occur. Neither the licensee nor the NRC intends to issue a 1

press release.

The State of North Carolina was notified.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 3:00 p.m. on August 22.
