STOLEN TROXLER GAUGE On January 14, 1997, Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc., notified the NRC and the State of Maryland that a Troxler Electronic Laboratories, Inc. nuclear density gauge containing approximately 10 millicuries of Cesium-137 and 40 millicuries of Americium-241 was stolen from its storage location some time between 5:00 p.m. on January 13, 1997-and 7:00 a.m. on January 14, 1997.

The licensee left the gauge padlocked in its original carrying case and stored inside a locked trailer on a construction site in Norwood, Montgomery County, Maryland.

The licensee also holds a State of Maryland license to use Troxler gauges within the State.

This incident is being handled by the State of Maryland.

The State plans to issue a press release.

The NRC is available for assistance if requested.
