STATE-WIDE REFERENDUM TO SHUTOCWN PILGRIM AND YANKEE ROWE DEFEATED Massachusetts voters voted down the state-wide referendum which proposed a law that ~
would have prohibited the generation of electricity by nuclear power plants in Massachusetts if nuclear waste is produced in the process.
The proposed law would have required shutdown of the Pilgrim and Yankee Rowe stations in Massachusetts by July 4, 1989. The official vote margin was 68% to 32%.
