LOSS OF SITE LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE SERVICE All long distance telephone service to and from the itaine Yankee site was lost at noon on August 4, 1980.
Loss of normal service was due to a cable cut in the Falmouth, Maine area.
The loss of service included the Health Physics Network, Emergency Notification System, and long distance commercial operaticns.
The Resident Inspector verified Licensee State Police Radio and Micro Wave service availability to the state capi tol. Normal service was restored at approximately 10:00 p.m.
The Headquarters Outy Officer was informed at 5:00 p.m. on August 4,1980 by the Resident Inspector using emergency priority lines authorized by telephcne company supervisory personnel.
A press release is not planned by the licensee or the NRC. The State of Maine has been informed. NRC, Region I received notification of this occurrence from the Senior Resident Inspector at 8:30 a.m. on August 5,1980.
