Shoreham, New York Subiect:
INJURY OF WORKER On July 23, 1980 a painter was working with solvent inside a downcomer. The solvent " detonated" at about 2:10 p.m.
The painter was taken to a hospital with burns covering an estimated 20-25% of his body.
This Preliminary Notification is issued for information only and no further action by IE is anticipated.
The licensee does not plan to issue a press release, but has responded to inquiries.
Region I does not plan to issue a press release. The State of New York and Region II OSHA were notified on July 24, 1980.
NRC Region I receivled notification of this occurrence by telephone from an inspector on site at 4:45 p.m. on JLly 23, 1980.
