In accordance with the requirements.,of 10 CFR 50, 51, and 54, PPL requeste*d the renewal of the operating licenses for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES)

Units I, and 2 in Reference 1.

The enclosure to this letter provides an amendment to Table A-..of the SSES License Renewal Application (LRA).,. This change revises Commitment #55 to provide adequate time for NRC to review the evaluation as discussed in the response to RAI 4.7.3-1 (Reference 2). This change was discussed during a teleconference on February 9, 2009 between the NRC and PPL.

There are no new, regulatory commitments contained herein. However, License Renewal

'Commitment #55. is revised. as,shown in the enclosure.

Implementation Schedule

55) Core Plate PPL will either: (1) obtain NRC approval of A. 1.3.6.3 Prior to the period of extended operation.

Hold-Down a SSES plant-specific evaluation consistent Bolts with BWRVIP-25 to demonstrate that the core plate rim hold-down bolts will be capable of preventing lateral displacement of the core plate for the period of extended operation (Tthe plant-specific evaluation will be submitted for NRC review no less than 2 years prior to the period of extended operation and will address the inspection strategy for the hold-down bolts); or (2) install core plate wedges to structurally replace lateral load resistance provided by the bolts.
