I am pleased to provide tne Environmental Protection Agency with copies of the Draft Environmental Statement (NUREG-0777), prepared by the Commission's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation on environmental considerations under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 relating to the operation of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2.

This Draft Environmental Statement was prepared in accordance with the statement of general policy and procedure on implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as set forth in the Commission's regulations,10 CFR Part 51. A notice of availability of the statement and request for comments frem interested persons is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for filing and publication (copy enclosed). A request for comments also is being sent to appropriate Federal, State, and local agencies.

After receipt of the comments from Federal, State and local agencies, we shall prepare a Final Environmental Statement including, where appropriate, a discussion of any ]roblems or objections raised and the disposition thereof, and forward copies Jf the statement to the Environm tal Protection Agency.

-NOTICE-OF AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT FOR THE GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 Notice is hereby given that the Draft Environmental Statement (NUREG-0777) related.to the operation of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, by the Mississippi Power & Light Company, has been prepared by the Commission's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. The Grand Gulf Nuclear Station is located on the 711ssissippi River in Claiborne County, Mississippi.

The Draft Environmental Statement -is available for inspection by the public in the Comaission's Public Document Room at 1717-H Street, N. W., Washington, D. C.

20555, and at the Hinds Jr. College, George M. ftcLendor Library, Raymond, Mississsippi 39154. The Draft Environmental Statement is also being made available at the State Clearingh'ouse, Coordinator Federal-State Programs, Office of the Governor,1503 Sillers Building, Jackson, Mississippi 39201, and the Southwest Mississippi Planning and Development District, Post Office Box 636, tieadville, Mississippi 39653. Requests for copies of NUREG-0777 should be addresed to the U.S. Nuclear Reguatory Commission, Washington, D. C. 20555, Attention: Director, Technical Information and Document Control.

Pursuant to 10 UR Part 51, interested persons may submit comments on this Statement for tne Connission's consiceration. Federal, State and specified local agencies are being provided with copies of the Draft Environmental Statement (local agencies may obtain these documents upon request).
