Enclosed is the Report to Congress on Status of Emergency Respoase Planning for Nuclear Power Plants called for in Public Law 96-295.
We are pleased to furnish this infUrmation on this important subject.
The report gives the status of a number of actions taken to improve responses to radiological emergencies.
Review of the emergency plans of licensees and State and local governments will continue to determine their adequacy or to iden-tify required improvements.
To carry out this vork we have recently reorganized all the emergency preparedness functions for reactor facilities and NRC emer-gency responses in the new Division of Emergency Preparedness in the Office of Inspection and Enforcement.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is cooper-ating in this work under a Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies.
We believe this report satisfies the requirement of Section 109, Public Law 96-295.
