Dear Mr. Norton:
This letter responds to your May 8, 1985, letter in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, three categories of documents pertaining to nuclear power plants, waste disposal sites, and vessels made to transport nuclear materials.
First, available from the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) is a volume entitled,
" Licensed Operating Reactors," NUREG-0020, Vol. 9, No. 2, February 1985, that lists each nuclear power plant, its location, the type of reactor used in each plant, and other information about the plants. This volume contains data for the 86 power plants that were operational as of January 31, 1985. For your information, the staff noted that as of April 30, 1985, two more plants became operational:
- 1. Byron 1 is a pressurized water reactor (PWR) located 17 miles southwest ofRockford, Illinois,andratedat1120MWE(net).
- 2. Waterford 3 is a PWR located 20 miles west of New Orleans, Louisiana, and rated at 1151 MWE (net).
Five additional plants had low power operating licenses as of April 30, 1985, but were not fully operational. The accession number for " Licensed Operating Reactors," which is available from the PDR located at 1717 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20555, is 850409008. We are enclosing a copy of a notice that provides charges and procedures for obtaining copies of records from the PDR.
Second, enclosed are an information sheet and map that provide the requested listing of nuclear waste disposal sites.
Third, the requested construction description of vessels made to transport nuclear material is found in NUREG-0383, Vol. 2, Rev. 7, " Directory of Certificate of Compliance for Radioactive Materials Packages--Certificates of Compliance." The title of this volume and its availability were provided you in our response to your request identified as F01A-85-330.
