SUBJECT:
HCOBRA/ TRAC OSU LONG-TERM COOLING FINAL VALIDATION REPORT, WCAP-14776
Dear Mr. Quay:
Enclosed is Westinghouse Topical Report WCAP-147761, "ECOBRA/ TRAC OSU Long-Term Cooling Final Validation Report." This report evaluates the performance of ECOBRA/ TRAC in predicting the long-term cooling (LTC) thermal-hydraulic effects observed in the Oregon State University (OSU) integral systems test facility. These tests have been scaled to the AP600 plant, including the passive safety systems. The ECOBRA/ TRAC OSU comparisons show that the code adequately predicts the system behavior during the LTC phase of the transient and represents the system mass distribution and flow in the tests which indicates that ample core cooling margin is present.
This report is provided to assist the ongoing staff review of the ECOBRA/ TRAC computer code application for AP600. During discussions with NRC staff, Westinghouse proposed to meet with NRC staff reviewers to present a summary of the ECOBRA/ TRAC AP600 validation activities. This meeting has been targeted for late November or early December.
This report addresses the following open items from the NRC Supplemental Draft Safety Evaluation Report (SDSER): 21.6.4-1, 21.6.4-15, 21.6.4-16, 21.6.4-18. The status of these items in the open item tracking system will be changed to " Action N" to reflect the NRC action to review the report.
The Westinghouse Electric Corporation copyright notice, proprietary information notice, application for withholding and affidavit are attached.
This submittal contains Westinghouse proprietary information consisting of trade secrets, commercial information or financial information which we consider privileged or confidential pursuant to 10CFR2.790. Therefore, it is requested that the Westinghouse proprietary information attached hereto be handled on a confidential basis and be withheld from public disclosures. A non-proprietary copy of
{
the enclosed report will be provided within 60 days of this letter.
