Regarding Recommendation 2.1 of the Near-Term Task Force Review of Insights from

3. NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC, Screening and High Confidence Low Probability of Failure (HCLPF) Results for Inaccessible and Late Addition Components, dated February 16, 2016(ML16047A163)

On March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a 10 CFR 50.54(f) letter to all power reactor licensees and holders of construction permits in active or deferred status.

Reference 1, Enclosure 1, requested each addressee located in the Central and Eastern United States (CEUS) to submit a Seismic Hazard Evaluation and Screening.

NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) submitted an Expedited Seismic Evaluation Process Report for Point Beach Units 1 and 2 (Reference 2). In Reference 2, NextEra indicated that inaccessible and late addition components would be screened for High Confidence Low Probability of Failure (HCLPF) by restart from the Unit 2 fall 2015 refueling outage. NextEra submitted the HCLPF results for the inaccessible and late addition components in Reference 3.

In Reference 2, NextEra also indicated that modifications would be completed to enhance the seismic capacity of the station. This letter provides written notification of completion of the following modifications that were stated in Reference 2:

1. Masonry wall 111-2/23, along the west side of the Control Room, was modified to provide additional support at mid-span of the wall.
2. Masonry wall 111-4N/23, along the west side of the Control Room, was modified to provide additional support at mid-span of the wall.
3. Shield installation was performed to protect targets. below the Work Control Center (WCC) block walls located on the 44 ft elevation of the Turbine Building .
4. Condensate Storage Tank (CST) anchorage modifications were completed.

In addition, subsequent to issuance of Reference 2, two additional block walls were identified as needing modification. Modifications have been completed to the two additional walls:

1. Masonry wall 113/23, a supporting element for walls 111-3N/23 and 111-3S/23, was modified to provide additional support at mid-span of the wall.
2. Masonry wall 114/23, a supporting element for walls 111-3S/23 and 111-4N/23, was
  • modified to provide additional support at mid-span of the wall. -
  • This letter contains no new regulatory commitments. This letter documents completion of commitments made in Reference 2.
