DPR-24 and DPR-27 Emergency Response Data Svstem (ERDS) Changes Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix El Section V1.3, "Maintaining the Emergency Response Data System," NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) is submitting this letter to inform the NRC of changes to the Point Beach Nuclear Plant emergency response data system (ERDS) link software and hardware scheduled to be implemented in April 2012.
In preparation for these changes, the ERDS Virtual Private Network (VPN) will be unavailable for a ten (10) hour timeframe. The work is scheduled to begin at approximately 0600 Central Time on April 10,2012. At this time, a one-way deterministic data diode will be installed in order to meet the requirements of the Cyber Security Rule 10 CFR 73.54. During implementation of this change, the legacy ERDS modems will remain available and will be used to transmit ERDS data, if required.
This information is being provided in compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix El Section V1.3.bl which requires notification 30 days prior to any hardware or software changes that could affect the transmission format or computer communication protocol to the ERDS.
