Operated by Nuclear Management Company, LLC December 19, 2005 NRC 2005-0151 10 CFR 50.55a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 1 Docket 50-266 License No. DPR-24 Filing of Analytical Evaluation Reports for the Pressurizer and Steam Generators from Point Beach Nuclear Plant Refueling Outage Ul R29 During the Ul R29 refueling outage at Point Beach Nuclear Plant (PBNP), Unit 1, indications exceeding the acceptance standards of ASME Section Xl were noted in the upper head to shell weld of the pressurizer, and the transition cone to upper shell welds in both steam generators. The welds were required to be examined in accordance with ASME Section Xl, and the examination techniques were performed in accordance with the Section Xl requirements and 10CFR50.55a. The ultrasonic (UT) techniques utilized were demonstrated in accordance with IWA-2240 to exceed the normal requirements of Section Xl. As a result, indications that had been previously recorded and determined to be acceptable as well as indications that were below the recording threshold of previous examinations were now determined to require analytical evaluation to ensure they were acceptable for the remainder of the life of the plant, including the period of extended operation.
In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a, Nuclear Management Company, LLC, (NMC) is submitting three Analytical Evaluation reports. These reports are on indications exceeding the acceptance standards of ASME Section Xl conducted during refueling outage U1 R29 that concluded on November 26, 2005. The enclosed Analytical Evaluation reports are submitted pursuant to the requirements of the 1998 Edition with addenda through 2000 of Section Xl of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, subarticle IWB-3134 for the Pressurizer and IWC-3125 for the Steam Generators. to this letter contains the Analytical Evaluation for the Pressurizer. contains the "A" Steam Generator Analytical Evaluation. Enclosure 3 contains the "B" Steam Generator Analytical Evaluation.
