NMCce Committed to NuclearEx Point Beach Nuclear Plant Operated by Nuclear Management Company, LLC April 23, 2004 NRC 2004-0045 10 CFR 50, Appendix E.VI.3.b U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 Dockets 50-266, 50-301, and 72-005 License Nos. DPR-24 and DPR-27 30 Day Notice of Software Changes to the Emergency Response Data-Link Source (ERDS)

In accordance with 10 CFR 50, Appendix E.VI.3.b, Nuclear Management Company, LLC (NMC), Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, is providing 30 day notice of software changes, "with the exception of data point modifications, that could affect the transmission format and computer communication protocol to the ERDS."

The proposed changes of SWR-2004-001 will modify the Emergency Response Datalink System (ERDS) datalink software on the Plant Process Computer System (PPCS). The ERDS datalink software provides NUREG-1394, Rev. 1 data from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant computer to the NRC computers during an Alert or higher Emergency event. Although the original version of this software, provided by Westinghouse during the PPCS replacement, has performed acceptably for more than two years, a deficiency was identified with an alarm indication on the PPCS following interruption and automatic restoration of the connection to the NRC. This SWR will therefore correct the deficiency and improve the software alarm and status information provided by the ERDS datalink to improve its status indication on PPCS. All other functions of the ERDS datalink software remain unchanged. Since Point Beach has two ERDS modems and associated software that can provide data for either unit, ERDS functionality will remain available during this testing.

This test for the change is scheduled to be performed during the June 1, 2004 ERDS test. Contact by phone will be made prior to the test.
