1) Letter, SLNRC 82-036, dated September 3,1982, N. A. Petrick (SNUPPS) to NRC, IE:III and IV
2) Westinghouse (Rahe) letter, NS-EPR-2638, to NRC (DeYoung) 8/6/82 Gentlemen:

Reference 1 provided an interim 50.55(e) report concerning a potential defic-iency involving an undetectable failure in the Westinghouse Solid State Pro-tection System (SSPS). There has been no change in the status of the issue since that report.

As discussed in Reference 2, Westinghouse is continuing to evaluate the need for design changes in the SSPS.

No design change recom-mendations are expected from Westinghouse within the next six months.

The SNUPPS Utilities will continue to review recommended revisions to testing procedures and possible design changes to correct this deficiency and will keep the NRC informed regarding the actions taken relative to this matter.

A followup report will be submitted by September 2,1983.

Very truly yours, EMw f
